9-22-14 Class

Today in Human Geo we talked about several of things. Also, we reviewed from last week. We just reviewed the average age of people in the US. One thing we talked about is why people want to immigrant. There are push forces and pull forces. A push force is a thing that drives someone out of a country. A pull force is a thing that makes the person want to go to that country. Some examples of push forces are Civil War, Environment degradation, unemployment or under employment, or religious or ethnic persecution. Religious persecution push force was big in WWII. Some examples of pull forces are better economic opportunity, better health services, religious freedom, and political freedom. Another thing we talked about today in class is TFR which is the average number of children born per woman. For a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1. Higher than 2.1, the population goes up. Lower than 2.1, the population goes down. The world TFR is 2.47 which was 2.54 two years ago. In the US, the TFR is 2.06. In Nigeria, the TFR is 5.38. In Japan, the TFR is 1.39.
