11-24-14

Today in Human Geo we continued to watch the movie. In the move Jamel is on a Game show called who wants to be a Millionaire. During the show there are flashbacks to his childhood of when he learned the answers to the questions. In Jamel’s childhood his brother and him would get beat up a lot and had to run from a group of men. In the game show he is doing really well and has gotten every question right so far. He also has two out of three of the help choices he had. In the movie, it also has Jamel trying to find his brother who is an architect. Also, there is a group of people who are questioning Jamel because they do not know how he is answering these questions because professors and lawyers have not been able to answer these questions. They accuse him of cheating. At the part of the movie that we are at, He is at the last question.

For today’s blog, we are to list the differences between the Slums and the US cultural. There is a big difference in the two cultures. One difference is in the way they are treated. In the slums, they are tortured and they would be hit with bats and other things, they would be chased, and they would be shocked. Also, the police does not protect them, like the police in the US would do. Another huge difference is the area where they live. Their houses are not big at all. Also, the area around them are dirty and have a lot of trash. Another thing is that their bathrooms was an open sewer that was right next to the river that they bathed in, washed their clothes in, and even drink out of. Currently in the movie, these older men are trying to catch Jamel and his friend because they ran away. The reason they ran away is because they were doing mean things to them.

11-20-14 Class

Today in Human Geo we watched a movie. The movie was about the people who lived in India who were poor and lived in bad areas. We only watched part of the movie. The part of the movie that we watched was very sad to see. The area they lived in was very dirty. Also, it had a ton of trash in the river and on the land. Another thing is that their bathrooms were right next to the river that they bathed in, washed their clothes in, and drank from. The police there were not friendly and did not protect them. They would chase after young children. The children would throw stuff at them when they would chase them. In addition to that the police would torture people to get the truth out of them. They would shock them and they would also hit them. But, instead of telling the truth they would just start saying anything because they were tired of getting tortured.

Today in Human Geo Mr. Schick was absent. Since he was absent, Mr. Schick posted something to his blog. Our assignment was to look up songs that had to do with push forces or pull forces. This assignment was extra credit, so we did not have to do it. I decided not to do it because I could not find any songs that had something to do with push or pull forces. The next assignment we had to do was create a blog post with the anthem for the country we did for our project. We had to include the lyrics (in English), what it sounded like, and how it compared to the US. Our group had already done this assignment so we did not have to do it today. If we had completed all those assignments we were allowed to do other homework. So, since I was done all assignments, I got to work on other homework.

11-17-14 Class

Today in Human Geo we did a few things. When we came into class, Mr. Schick said that he had not graded the essay part of the test, but that he would show us our grade for the multiple choice section of the test. I did not do well at all on the test. After each person saw their test grade, we started the next section. The next section is Cultural Geography. To begin the section, he showed us a map of the US and how the different sections of the US call a carbonated drink. Some people call it “Pop”, some people call it “Coke” and some people call it “Soda”. The thing that decides what a new born baby calls it depends on what they here others call it. Cultural characteristics are parts of a group’s everyday life. They are the ideas and themes which the group will teach to all members. These same characteristics can also link or decide a region. Some examples of cultural characteristics would be language, religion, and ethnic heritage.

Class Assigment

Here is the National anthem for the US:

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

11-13-14 Class

Today in Human Geo we were supposed to have a quiz. We were going to have a quiz today in Human Geo, but Mr. Schick decided to postpone the test until Thursday. The reason he did this was because he had created a study guide to help us study for the quiz, and he added a link to other people’s presentations to the really good ones. Last night people e-mailed Mr. Schick telling him that they did not have access to the presentations. So, he said that he would correct that issue today. So, since we did not have the quiz today he let us do whatever we wanted to for the rest of class. So, some people talked with their friends. Some people studied. Some people studied for the test while talking with their friends. While other people just did other things on their computers. I am glad he postponed the test because then that gave me extra time to study.

Today in Human Geo we did several of things. When we came into class he told us that we had a test on Wednesday. He told us it was going to have the information on the leaders. He also said that it would have multiple choice questions on the test. After he explained to us what is going to be on the test, he told us that parent conferences are on Thursday. He said, if you do badly on the test that if our parents are conferencing with him, that he will mention the test. After he told us all of that we just did our own thing. If we had any questions about the test, we could ask him in class. I just did things on my computer for the rest of class. A lot of people just did things on their laptops. Reece had a discussion with Mr. Schick about our Government. That is what we did in class today.

Class 11-5-14

Today in Human Geo we started to present our country projects to the class. The first group who went was Germany. Their government is a federal republic. A federal republic is a federation of states with a republican form of government. Their current leader in Germany is Chancellor Angela Merkel, this is her third term. Also, in Germany, they also have a president. But, the president does not have a big role in the government. They elect the president every four years. The president can be impeached, but there is no point in impeaching the president since they don’t have a big role. After they finished, we could ask them questions about the country they did. Next, the people who did France did their presentation. They shared information on the government and their leader. France’s current leader is Francois Hollande. After they went, my group went which did the US. The current leader is Barack Obama which is our president. We then talked about the impeachment process. How it works is that if the House of Representatives decides to impeach the president, then the senate tries the accused. If the senate convicts the accused, then they are removed from office immediately. The type of government in the US is a federal republic. After that, we gave a little description on why we are a federal republic. When we were done, class was over.

11-3-14 Class

Today in Human Geo we worked on our projects. We were originally supposed to present our projects today, but Mr. Schick asked us if we would like another day to work on our projects. We said yes. So, Mr. Schick gave us another day. So, I pulled up our PowerPoint and added some information. I looked up the number of president that were impeached in the US. The answer was one. The one president who got impeached was Andrew Johnson. The reason he got impeached is because he removed the Secretary of War without the Senate’s approval. He was impeached on February 24th, 1868. The reason there is only one president who got impeached. That is because, if you disagree with the president’s opinions, you can’t just impeach the president for that. A lot of people want to impeach presidents just for disagreeing with them. Today, our group got done our project and is ready to present.

11-1-14 Blog

Today in Human Geo we worked on our countries project. When we came into to class we started by reviewing the answers to the pop quiz. So, he gave back the quizzes and we went over the answers to make sure we had the right answers. After that he told us that we would be presenting our projects on Monday. So, if we did not finish in class that we had to finish it this weekend. So, James and I continued to work on our project. I was researching to find if Barack Obama had any impeachable offenses against him. But, I was not finding any information about that topic. Some impeachable offenses are Treason, Bribery, any High Crimes, etc. The US is a Federal Republic. We are part democracy, but mostly republic. The reason is because we vote on the people who represent us. Also, we vote on bills occasionally, but most of the time the people who represent us do.
